Welcome to the website of Newton Abbot Chess Club

Welcome back to members new and old. It was great to see so many new players at the club on the first Club night of the year. We will be meeting every Thursday at 7pm from now until next May so please book it down as a regular event in your diary.

Several club members continued their chess playing this summer, with a good number competing in the British Championships and the DCCA Congress, both held in Torquay. Reports on how they fared can be found on the News page.

Newton Abbot Chess Club was founded in 2005 and has become one of the most successful and active Chess clubs in Devon. We welcome chess players of all standards, so if you are an experienced player, someone who hasn't played chess for a while or an absolute beginner, why not come along and give us a try? You will be warmly welcomed.

The club meets from September to May on Thursday evenings at 7pm at the Courtenay Centre, Kingsteignton Road, Newton Abbot. We run a variety of internal competitions, enter teams in all divisions of the Torbay Chess League and also participate in the leagues of the Devon County Chess Association. We have an active junior section and encourage junior players interested in chess to come along to club nights.

We make sure that, whatever your standard, you will be able to play a friendly and enjoyable game of chess.
